Cavallo Point Lodge

601 Murray Circle, Ft. Baker, Sausalito

Reservations 1-888-651-2003        Hotel 415-339-4700

Website is here.  Spa web page is here.  Valet parking available, self-parking is a sizable hike up the hill.

Fast Forward SummaryTM:  This unique property was created as part of turning the old military base Fort Baker into a national park within the Golden Gate National Recreation Area (GGNRA), renovating old officers quarters and adding new buildings.  Like Casa Madrona, there are good rooms here and some not-so-good rooms, and if you buy through a discount site the view from your window may not match the postcards and the online photos.  Call ahead directly to the hotel before you commit any nonrefundable dollars to make sure you know what kind of room is waiting for you.  On the plus side, rooms have gas fireplaces or free-standing stoves, and you're inside a beautiful national park right next to the Golden Gate Bridge and have great options for walks, hikes and bike rides.  The restaurant (Murray Circle) is a high-end Michelin-star magnet for foodies.  On the downside, there is no room service (whose idea was that?), many rooms are on the second or third floor of buildings with no elevators, and the limited on-property food choices are very expensive.  A great choice if you want peaceful surroundings, but too far to walk from the Sausalito ferry.  Major emphasis here on recycling and sustainability.   We have not yet published our full review and rating for the Cavallo Point Lodge.

The hotel is marked as "A" on the map below.
